I always gave Shiva a pistol, a machinegun, and all of my meds.

She always used the meds at exactly the right time, and I hated using machineguns myself. Everything worked out rather nicely.

Claude01 wrote:
why didn't you like RE 4 Birkin?

Oh how I loathe it, let me count the ways.

1. Story

You better believe this is at the top of my list. It's the biggest problem I have with the game
and it's subsequent sequel. I'm sure that some of you here can agree, and if not I know a LOT
of people who do. But that's a tale for another day.

Capcom released the first Resident Evil game back in 1996 and struck pure gold. It created
it's very own genera and spawned 8 subsequent sequels that had one awesome aspect that
connected them: story continuity. From 1 to 0, and everything in between, the games could all
be linked through the game's elaborate story plot. In any game you'll find hints and nods to one
or more of the previous games.

That is, until Resident Evil 4.

Now, in Re4`s defense, the changes made to the stories continuity were small if not out right
ridiculous, but they were mostly limited to their own game. I mean, really. Do you honestly
think that Ada would waste her time staying one or two steps AHEAD of Leon and Ashley,
just so she could leave them lil treasures and clues? I thought this was Resident Evil, not
Scooby Doo. Jinkies aside, the main complaint with the game is how it handles the story.

I can’t complain about the first story arc which is played out over the course of 0 through
3, which chronicles the events of Raccoon City. That arc ends with the destruction of
Raccoon City itself, with Outbreak 1 & 2 (and later Umbrella & Darkside chronicles)
expand on other events in the city. Overall an epic story. The second arc is what I like to
call the fall of Umbrella. Its self explanatory and sums it up. This arc plays out over the
course of gun survivor 1, dead aim, code veronica x, with the two wii titles expanding
on the events later. With code veronica x, we were set for a climactic conclusion with
Umbrella, one that had been in the making for many, many years.

And they short hand us with 7 minutes of dialogue from Leon in the opening AMV.

… You couldn’t be anymore fucking anti-climactic if you were a premature ejaculator
with ADHD high on speed. Instead of giving the story arc a proper ending, they give a
big “Fuck You” to the previous games and all of its fans.

2. Clichés & Dialogue

Clichés are something that we all have to deal with from time to time. While the movie
Industry and pop culture is full of them, video games have their fair share as well. And the
Resident Evil series is no exception. There is no finer example of this than RE 4.

“Salazar: The sacred rite that is about to begin at this tower will bestow the
girl with magnificent power. She will join us, become one of us.
Leon: This is no ritual, this is terrorism.
Salazar: Isn't that a popular word these days? Not to worry, we've prepared a
special ritual just for you.”

“Krauser: You may be able to prolong your life, but it's not like you can escape your
inevitable death,.”

“Saddler: Oh, I think you know. The american prevailing is a cliche that only happens
in your Hollywood movies. Mr. Kennedy, you entertain men. To show my appreciation,
I will help you awaken from your world of clichés .”

Need I go on?

3. Characters (Sorta)

I say sorta because not all of the characters were bad. Some of them were quite colorful and
very enjoyable to meet. Luis Sera for example. He has some of the best dialogue in the game,
and his personality in general is just infectious. He’s the kind of guy you’d invite to a party
simply because he’d be the life of it. Though I can’t seriously see him being a scientist. Sorry,
I don’t buy it. The Merchant and even Salazar are good characters in their own aspect.

Then you’ve got Saddler and Krauser, and Ashley. There’s no redeeming value in Saddler. Not
one bit. He talks so much about clichés and happens to be the biggest one of them all. His
motivation, and ideals. Every scrap of dialogue, even the way he looks is some how clichéd.

I mention Krauser simply because he’s paradox. We’re supposed to connect with him some how,
cause he and Leon were in training before, then he mysteriously goes missing in a chopper crash
and ends up here, in the same remote part of the world as Leon, seemingly by fate. Granted we
find out that he’s working under Wesker, which begs the question how he found out about him.

Does Wesker have nothing better to do with his time than to keep tabs on all of the Raccoon
Survivors and everyone they come into contact with? Where does Krauser fit into all of this?
We know he’s sent in to keep an eye on Ada and to make sure she doesn’t double cross him,
but if Wesker knew she was going to betray him from the start, why bother? There’s no real
reason for Krauser to exist.

Do you know what people hate in video games? Escort Missions. That’s pretty much what
RE 4 is, one long, ridiculous escort mission. The soul reason we have Re4 is because of
Ashley Graham. Typical big breasted, blond headed, air-head, horror movie D.I.D (Damsel
In distress). And people thought that Re5 was stereotypical.

Ashley’s usefulness is proportional to her I.Q, which is pretty damn low. Her only reason to
exist in the game is to make it more frustrating for you, which I suppose is a step above Mr.
Stabbity-stab-stab up there. Sure you could attribute her clumsiness to poor A.I, but then
how do you explain her running right into an obvious trap in the castle, getting herself
captured for like the 3`rd or 4`th time since we’ve met her? She doesn’t try to run from any
of the villagers who randomly grab her, nor does she try to fight them. The only thing they did
right was give her a suite of armor in the ps2 port and make it so she couldn’t be carried off.

4. Monsters

Lastly, we have the monsters themselves. The Las Plagas, or the plague. At first we’re introduced
to Ganados, or the cattle. These are your generic enemies, the villagers infected with the parasites.
Unlike zombies, they can run, talk, use weapons, plan, and are otherwise human. The only time
You figure out something wrong is with them is when their heads explode, revealing a freaky tentacle
that pushes up from their neck. I’ve got no real problem with the Ganados. As far as enemies go, they’re
a refreshing change compared to the slow zombies we’ve been fighting before, except for the fact that,
like Krauser, there’s no reason for them to exist.

The reasoning behind the Ganados is because the director (who wasn’t Shinji Mikami btw), felt that the
zombies weren’t exciting enough, that quicker, more dangerous basic enemies. Well, that’s all fine and
good except that the RE remake had already addressed that problem with the introduction of the Crimson
Head. There was no need for them to deviate from zombies at this point other than the fact that the new
director wanted to try and on up Shinji Mikami and failed.

I mean, even without the Crimson Heads, we had a fast and dangerous basic enemy that kept us on our
toes. Cerberus/Zombie Dogs were the speed that zombies lacked and that’s what made them so damn
scary! Ugh.

Anyway lets get to a more obvious monster. The fucking Cave Trolls. Really. I understand that the
LOTR series was the hottest shit at the time, but did you REALLY need to throw in a fucking cave
troll into the mix!? There’s no way you can argue that it isn’t a cave troll either. Just look at the two
of them. They’re nearly identical in appearance! Oh lets not forget our tolkien (get it?) hobbit, Salazar.
Seriously, the only thing we’re missing is Gollum and Aragorn!

*twitch* So much for good Friday. *goes to get drunk and to forget about Re4 again*

I loved the suit of armor. I left Ashley alone in the middle of enemies and lobbed grenades toward her.

Demon's Response to Birkins Big list o'Complaints about RE4:

STORY: Granted, yes there is a HUGE lack of previous storyline related to the RE World in this game, but you have several things wrong here my friend. I've read all those little notes several times and here's RE4's story in a nutshell.

Leon Kennedy - A Survivor of Raccoon City gets a HUGE promotion for his role, and goes from rookie street cop to S-Ranked Agent. Though i really do DISPISE the fact he acts like batman, throwing knives like batarangs at people in cinemas, and using a grapling hook to save his life from time to time. Though if this is the president's daughter were talking about here why is there only one agent, when there should be like 10 at least... kinda rediculous how they made him like Snake in metal gear givin him a palm pilot, to talk to HQ which everyone and his brothr seems to know th secur link to...

Ada Wong - Agent hired to secure a Las Plagas sample for new bioweapons use. She apparently was getting info from Wesker who had a mole in Saddler's cult to achieve her objective. Wesker i'm assumeing is the one who hired her as well not wanting to get personally involved for such a mundane task. Apparently she was to meet with Luis Sera who was helped to escape from Saddler by Krauser.

Krauser - A second agent working for Wesker. His job was to be an inside man to get close to Saddler's cult and obtain mor info on the new Bio Weapon. Unfortunatly for Wesker he got a little too deep and joined Saddler's group full time, becomeing an experiment himself. The Helicopter crash was staged to pronounce him dead to the American Agencies so he could kidnap Ashley and leave them no solid clues as to who was responsible. As for his ties to Leon, yea it's bullshit
Leon: "hey weren't you in bandcamp?"
Krauser: "Yea Basoon player!"
Leon: "TUBA!!"

Saddler - Weird guy who ran the local church. When the miners found the Plagas fossils, he used the churches money to hire local Scientist, Luis Sera, and bring a living Plagas into the world. Luckily for him i guess he was the first person to get infected by a Plagas, either by choice or accident we don't know, and he became the Hive Mind. Which combined with his trusting status in the community made it easier to infect the local populace and royalty in the castle.

Luis Sera - Small town scientist with alot to prove to the world. Unforunatly for him his first real sponsorship came from a church in a small mining town, which later aimed to use his results form the Plagas Study to destroy the US. Sadly he had a change of heart too late and when an out came from Wesker in exchange for the Plagas Sample. Shit had already hit the fan.

Wesker and the Plagas - Wesker used Krauser to help gain Saddler's trust, in order to get contact with Luis about the new Las Plagas Parasite, and send Ada to get the samples and results of Luis' study. The Plagas is a parasite that works like a colony of ants. The Hive Mind acts like a queen and controls the worker ants. Wesker sees the potential inthis parasite and wants it for his own purposes. The T-Virus which merely turns humans into walking flash eating monsters, and other species into mutant killing machines is inefective other then for mass destruction. The Plagas however can be controlled, which is why it has caught his interest.

Intro into RE5 - The Plagas sample is successfully recovered by Wesker, and is sent to Umbrella's African Labs for further more conclusive study. They find a way to make it into a more effective weapon then Saddler and crackpot ideals. Nothings better then a test run to find out i the effort was worth it, and luckily for Wesker Africa's always at war somewhere. To the rest of the world, wherever they decide to hold their test it would just look like another typical genocide. Continues into RE5.

Kinda rediculous how Ashley and Leon escape on a wave runner. They typically have a mas water speed of 60 Mph with a single rider and a full tank of gas can last a little bit longer then a hour.
-----------------------------------

Other points of discussion.
1. Though the Plagas is the new current bio weapon in the "games" currently. The T-Virus isn't done with yet. They are continueing the Virus in other ways such as Resident Evil: Degeneration the movie. Leon is in this movie and he still has his Solid Snake palm pilot with him. And this is ALOT later after his trip to Spain in RE4 which was his first mission as an Agent. The Plagas has the games now, but the virus is still spreading in other places.

2. Consider RE4 like Resident Evil: Zero & The origional. A prelude as to what is to come for a new Bio Weapon. RE5 is like RE2, RE3, Outbreak, etc. for all of Raccoon City game. The effect of the new Bio Weapon released onto the general public this time on purpose instead of accidental.

3. I assume at some point another game or movie will explain the gap between spain and africa in the future.

4. I'm guessing RE6 or 7 will include a brand spanking new form of Bio Weapon. My guess is a Plagas fused with T-Virus, resulting into something much like the Leeches in Zero Hour.

I liked Leon when he was a rookie. The die-hard, super heroes don't work anymore. The rookie with the shaky aim does.

Another reason I hate Re4. It began taking hints from the movies, and then the movies
started to do the same thing to the games. Granted this was awesome when it was just
the movies referencing the games, but then the games started taking from the movies,
which are awful in their own right. Ugh.. You mark my words. They'll have Alice in their
soon enough. The only thing good that was introduced to the games via the movies was
the introduction of the Red Queen computer system.

RE4 was a good game in itself. But I agree that the story is almost completely random. The las plagas are a randomly created enemy. And the story was pretty bad.

Who said they couldn't beat it? The only thing that sucks is the lack of ammo the first play through. But sadly, you can kill a group of 100 enemies by continuously knifing....

I demand that they bring back zombies, but with better AI. Spaniards with critters in their necks just aren't scary. Neither are aborigines with critters in their necks.

Seriously, Crimson Heads were frickin' terrifying/awesome. And we only got to see them in one game. Unless you count Umbrella Chronicles.

Maybe have some sort of T-virus, but with plaga DNA sprinkled in to give them more intelligence? That'd be neat.

Of course, plagas are almost universally superior to zombies, so mixing the two would really be a downgrade as far as BOWs go. But it would certainly make me (And a lot of old school RE fans) reeeeeally happy.

And the best/scariest part in RE4 was in the sewer being chased by that one thing and trying to get the elevator to work. The second time through or so I used the unlimited rocket launcher to kick his ass.

lmao yea. only thing that pisses me off is. The handcannon is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to get. I nearly got it but fucking ada and leon are USELESS in the waterworks level with the mad chainsaw man. Krauser and Wesker i have done but it's those two fucknuts that are cock blocking me.

a magnum is the SPECIAL weapon when an infinite launcher is as easy as beating hard mode with the begining pistol and a knife (i've done it, took some skill and time, but i did it)

I see people saying that they gave sheva this and that...I always play as sheva and trust me Chris is much much more of a douche. One time he found a grenade on the floor and picked it up. While this alone would have been fine because I had slaughtered everything nearby so i was able to enter the inventory to get it off of him. However while I went to select it he decided to not only equip it but throw the bloody thing at me and kill me before coming along to walk into a wall a few feet away from me until i died...WORST FUCKING ALLY EVER!!!
